There’s not a lot of specifics I can give about this little one, but isn’t she terribly cute?
The Riccar brand came from a japanese mail-order catalog retailer, and their products were renowned for very high quality standards. Their sewing machines were no exception, as they even sold Bernina machines under this brand. Can’t go wrong with that.
This little number, though, is a japan-made OEM model, that can be found at least also under the White brand. Although quite simple, it still includes a few stitches, courtesy of some built-in nylon cams: a tricot stitch, a blind hem stitch, and a three-step buttonhole. This already covers quite a lot of work. The zigzag width is also regulated by cams in stepped intervals, and while this is a bit limiting in feel and flexibility, it’s also advantageous in simplicity and allows you to match stitches with accuracy.
Just two controls provide access to all the important basics (with reverse as a push-button in the center of the length dial), making this an easy machine to learn and use.
Its diminutive size betrays its functionality and build, which is complete and solid. Hardware like thread guides and supports is of good quality chrome metal. The body itself is metal, only major moving parts like the nose cover and accessory box are plastic. The removable accessory box even offers a free arm configuration, like most modern standard sewing machines.
A top carrying handle completes the feature set, which of course includes the obligatory bobbin wider, spool pins, all very familiar and standard.
Overall condition of this unit is quite excellent.
